Deon Moore and Jamie Splatt stake claims for bigger roles at Dulwich Hamlet

Gavin Rose was given plenty to think about after Jamie Splatt and Deon Moore, both returning from short loan spells, impressed in Dulwich Hamlet’s 3-1 win over Welling United in the London Senior Cup on Tuesday.

Moore (pictured) spent the previous month on loan at Lewes while Splatt has returned from VCD Athletic. The pair are fighting for a spot in Dulwich’s starting line-up and have caught the eye of Rose.

“We rested a lot of first team players and so returning loanees and B team players from the academy got some important game time,” said the Hamlet boss. “Jamie Splatt played really well in defensive midfield and Deon Moore did well further up the pitch. In a busy upcoming period, it’s good to have competition in the squad. We are undecided about who will go out again on loan, so it’s good to have options.”

Dulwich started slowly as Bradley Stevenson opened the scoring for Welling United with a moment of individual brilliance. But the visitors’ lead disappeared just before half-time when Chike Kandi’s effort was deflected into the net.

Kandi scored his second soon after the restart to put Dulwich ahead.

Debutant Jamal Abubakari pounced on keeper Jack Sims’ free-kick spillage  – celebrating with a kneeslide.

Dulwich head to Brentwood, who play in the Isthmian League North Division, in the second round of the FA Trophy tomorrow.

Rose said: “They’ve got a good manager in Rod Stringer and are in good form of late, winning their last nine games. Team selection will depend on Thursday training.”

Bromley suffered a 2-1 loss at home to Yeovil Town in the National League on Tuesday. Michael Cheek’s 44th-minute penalty cancelled out Thomas Andrew Knowles’ opener at Hayes Lane. Charlie Wakefield scored in the first-half stoppage time to decide the tie. The Ravens remain fourth and go to eighth-placed Wrexham tomorrow.

Daniel Williams’ finish was not enough for Tooting & Mitcham as they lost 2-1 at home to to Chertsey Town in midweek. The Terrors, 13th in the 19-club division, do not have a match this weekend.

Fisher beat Welling Town 2-1 in the SCEFL Challenge Cup first round on Tuesday. Isaac Thompson’s penalty gave Fisher the lead but Adebola Sotoyinbo also converted from the spot to draw Welling level. Matthew Nezval’s grabbed the 98th-minute winner. It was the perfect response after the Fish were battered 4-0 by Bearstead last weekend. They are at Lordswood tomorrow in the SCEFL Premier Division.
