Dillian Whyte set to box in States in August – with DAZN promotional deal looking likely

Dillian Whyte is set to box in the United States in August, with the Brixton heavyweight looking likely to agree a promotional deal with DAZN.

Matchroom Boxing boss Eddie Hearn recently signed an exclusive deal for his shows to be on the streaming network, ending a long-standing relationship with Sky Sports.

And Whyte – along with world champion Anthony Joshua – is one of British boxing’s biggest stars.

He regained the WBC Interim world title with an emphatic stoppage of Alexander Povetkin in March.

“Everybody feels the best thing for Dillian Whyte is to fight in America next,” Hearn told iFL TV. “He is not going to have a huge fight next. It will be a solid fight and if that’s the case, with the crowd restrictions in the UK, then it’s a bigger story and better strategy to go to America and make some noise.

“There’s a lot of talk about him and Deontay Wilder, we’ll see what happens on July 24 [when the American faces Tyson Fury]. Andy Ruiz is a fight he wants as well. Luis Ortiz….there are massive fights for him in America.

“We’re looking at dates towards the end of August. Dillian has been in tough fight after tough fight. Every fight is tough, he’s not going to be taking an easy touch but right now it might not be Andy Ruiz, Luis Ortiz or Wilder.

“The plan is to get Dillian Whyte two fights this year, the back end will be the bigger fight.”

Asked about DAZN’s desire to work with the South Londoner, Hearn replied: “He’s been fighting on Sky pay-per-view for a long time and that would remain an option for him.

“We want to move him forward with DAZN and so do they. I think they have big plans for him globally. They have the ability to make massive fights for Dillian in America, the UK, Asia or even Australia with the likes of Demsey McKean. They have the ability to box him globally. I’m sure there will be an announcement in due course.”
