‘Disappointed’ – Frank Lampard’s assessment after Chelsea suffer defeat at Wolves

Returning Chelsea boss Frank Lampard admitted that his side lacked aggression in their 1-0 defeat at Wolves on Saturday.

Matheus Nunes’ strike in the 31st minute was the difference as Julen Lopetegui’s side moved three points clear of the Premier League relegation zone.

Lampard’s Blues only managed one shot on target.

The 44-year-old, who was sacked by Everton earlier in the season, has been brought in until the end of the season after Chelsea sacked Graham Potter.

Chelsea take on Real Madrid on Wednesday in their Champions League first-leg quarter-final clash.

“I was disappointed to lose my first game back,” Lampard told Chelsea’s YouTube channel.

“We lacked a bit of aggression in our game.

“We have come to a team who are fighting hard at the bottom of the table and they want the points.

“I wanted more from us. I said that at half time to the lads – it’s the baseline in the Premier League.

“They upped their urgency in the second half – and you have to match their urgency.

“Something for me to see in those terms. You have to understand what the baselines are to win matches. Today, we didn’t match that.

“I have learnt a lot in a short time. There is a lot of work today. I want to help this club move on in this league in this period.

“We can’t be too low after this.”
