Disappointing end to season for O’Gorman in Spain

Erith teenage motorcycle racer, Casey O’Gorman didn’t have the finish he’d hoped for in the Moto3 Junior World Championship as bad weather and three crashes left him scrapping for points at the final round in Valencia, Spain last weekend.
With strong winds preventing any track time on Thursday and Friday, the lack of practice and two crashes did the sixteen year old no favours as he qualified his 250cc Honda back in 15th on the fifth row.
Timing the lights perfectly in the first of Sunday’s two races, O’Gorman jumped up to tenth at the end of the first lap of 17.
Two laps later just as everything was looking good, O’Gorman lost control coming out of turn eleven and crashed heavily, hitting his head hard.
Starting 17th for the second race, O’Gorman didn’t manage to get the same flyer he got earlier in the day but still pulled a position back but had his work cut out to get to the front.
As the race settled down, O’Gorman climbed up to 14th but by mid distance had dropped back to 16th, six seconds off the back of the leading pack as the effects of the previous race crash kicked in.
Despite retaking his 14th spot, O’Gorman could progress no further, having a quiet race to eventually take the flag 15.524 seconds behind winner Joel Esteban.
O’Gorman’s brief appearance in the championship placed him 23rd in the final placings on nine points.
