Dons boss: Brentford loanee has to ‘pay the price’ for late red card in Barrow defeat

Johnnie Jackson says that Brentford loanee Paris Maghoma has to “pay the price” for his sending after the full-time whistle in AFC Wimbledon’s 1-0 loss at home to Barrow.

The 21-year-old was issued with a second yellow following the full-time whistle by referee John Busby.

It appeared that Maghoma was handed his first yellow card following a challenge right on the cusp of the final kick of the game.

Maghoma has started every game under Jackson so far during his loan spell with the Dons and has played every minute of each game. He will miss next Saturday’s trip to Stockport if the red card is not rescinded.

Josh Gordon’s strike in the 10th minute was the difference at Plough Lane, as the Dons suffered their second defeat in League Two this season.

“He’s said something to the referee, which the referee didn’t like,” explained Jackson of Maghoma’s double booking.

“We will have to wait for the report, speak to the lad and see what was said.

“The referee has made that decision. It’s difficult for me to comment, not knowing what happened and what was said.

“It’s a harsh learning one for him, but that’s his sixth game in senior football today – he’s a young lad. His frustrations have gotten the better of him in that moment, and he will have to pay the price for that now.

“That’s senior football, and he had got to learn that lesson – it’s just one of them things that comes with youth.”

Jackson took off academy full-back Jack Currie at half time and replaced him with Paul Osew, who recently signed a new two-year extension with the club after being out of contract last summer.

“He [Currie] jarred his shoulder in a collision,” explained Jackson.

“He was in quite a bit of pain at half time, so we just took the decision to look after him.

“Paul Osew is fit now and raring to go, so we thought it made sense to bring Jack off and to bring Paul on.”
