Dons boss explains why former Tottenham youngster not involved
AFC Wimbledon head coach Mark Robinson has explained why George Marsh missed out being in their matchday squad for Saturday’s 2-0 loss at home to Lincoln City.
A first-half strike from Lewis Fiorini and a late second from substitute Teddy Bishop gave the 10-man Imps all three points at Plough Lane and condemned the Dons to their 19th game in all competitions without a win.
Marsh signed for the South Londoners in the summer from Tottenham Hotspur on a free transfer.
Since making the switch to SW19, Marsh has featured 22 times in League One and started the previous 14 League One games under Robinson.
Asked by the South London Press about the 23-year-old midfielder’s absence from the matchday squad, Robinson said: “I just wanted to go full thrust.
“We haven’t got attacking options. My two main forwards were injured, so I wanted to go front foot – just get loads of attacking options on the pitch.
“If that wasn’t working, I just wanted to have as many possible attacking options.
“I explained that to George – it was nothing to do with his performances.
“If we were winning, I wanted to stay on the front foot, and if we needed a goal, we wanted to get on the front foot.
“That’s why I played Dapo [Mebude], Rudi [Jack Rudoni], Ayoub [Assal] and Zach [Robinson] all in the same side, as well as having Luke McCormick playing [in a deeper role].
“I just wanted to be on the front foot.”
