Dons boss Jackson ‘can’t wait’ as Plough Lane return against Carlisle confirmed
AFC Wimbledon will return to Plough Lane tomorrow for the first time since the pitch and stadium were damaged following extensive flooring after the River Wandle burst for the first time since 1968.
Carlisle United are the visitors to SW19 as the South Londoners host their first home since September 14 – a 3-0 win over rivals Milton Keynes.
More than 51mm (2ins) of rain fell in the local area, almost three times Wimbledon’s average rainfall for the month, overnight on 22 September.
Wimbledon’s EFL Cup third round clash against Premier League side Newcastle and their League Two games against Crewe and Accrington were all postponed.
Jackson’s side had their game against the Magpies rescheduled for a week later at St James’ Park, with the Dons losing 1-0 following a Fabian Schar spot kick.
Around 100,000 litres of water was pumped from the stadium and a replacement section of the pitch was laid on Monday following repairs to the attenuation tank beneath the pitch.
The JustGiving page set up by Graham Stacey, who is a fan and former Dons Trust board member, raised over £120k to help with repairs.
“I can’t wait,” Jackson told the club website.
“What happened was a freak – the response from the club was unbelievable.
“It was disappointing that we missed out on the opportunity of two home games against Crewe and Accrington.
“We were going in with real momentum and felt as though it was two good games to attack and to get some points that would put us right up there.
“It’s a tough test coming up. I can’t wait to be at Plough Lane and in front of our supporters.”
