Dons boss Jackson takes the positive from 1-0 friendly defeat at non-league Eastbourne
AFC Wimbledon manager Johnnie Jackson was not overly peturbed by their 1-0 friendly defeat at Eastbourne Borough on Saturday – emphasising that fitness work and not getting any injuries was a priority.
Luke McCormick missed the match against the non-league outfit due to a slight knock.
Former Dons player Chris Whelpdale headed the only goal for the hosts.
“I’m always disappointed to lose but the main things I wanted from the game have been fulfilled – more minutes in the legs and everyone came through unscathed without any injuries,” Jackson told the club’s website.
“We’ve started to implement some of the things I’m asking for. There’s more to come from everyone in this group.
“The conditions weren’t that ideal to the style I want to play – the weather played its part and the surface is one we’re not used to.
“It got a little bit bitty, games can go like that when you make a lot of changes. There were a lot of young lads coming on and a few triallists. It became a little bit of a no-contest in the second half. It looked like it was going to peter out into a 0-0 and then they got a goal from that set-piece situation.”
