Dons defender Terell Thomas makes revelation about his matchwinner against Portsmouth

BY JOSHUA MINCHIN

Terell Thomas’ towering stoppage-time header grabbed all three points in Saturday’s 1-0 win over Portsmouth – and the centre-back has revealed the free kick routine came straight off the training ground.

The former Charlton defender got off the mark for the Dons as they made it three League One victories on the bounce.

Thomas said: “It’s something that me and Ryan [Delaney] worked on. Last week it worked at the corner when he scored [at Southend], and this week we just swapped roles.

“I got in there and scored the last-minute winner. It’s a great feeling to score my first goal for Wimbledon.”

When asked to describe the pandemonium he caused with his late heroics,” said Thomas, who turned 24 last week. “It brought back memories of Luton away last season. It’s hard to say which one beats the other.

“Praise for everyone. It’s not just the backline that keeps a clean sheet – it’s the whole team, because when you haven’t got the ball the first defender is the striker – we’re just the last line of defence”

“The fans are always with us, regardless of the result they’re always singing, always behind us. It helps for that last five or 10 minutes when we’re digging in.

“It gives us that extra push, that twelfth man.”
