Dons extend winning run as Haywards Heath swept aside

AFC Wimbledon continued their high-goalscoring winning streak with a 4-0 victory over Haywards Heath in a midweek fixture under the lights.

The Dons made a strong start with Emma Plewa threatening the Town keeper on three occasions before finding the back of the net six minutes in, after an expert heel pass by Ashlee Hincks.

The Dons were forced into an early substitution when Plewa went down injured after the goal, Sandra Soares Martins taking her place.

Soares Martins quickly forced the Town keeper into an excellent tip on to the bar from 25 yards out.

After some brilliant play out from the back by the Dons, Hincks was brought down in the penalty area and she buried the spot-kick without any hesitation.

Haywards Heath responded well and a few minutes later they forced Faye Baker into a fingertip save from a free-kick.

With only 45 seconds played in the second half, Hincks struck again – this time with a wonder half-volley from 30 yards out.

The Dons’ defensive line kept a tight ship and the clean sheet was never really in much doubt.

Wimbledon boss Kevin Foster made an additional three substitutions, with Ashleigh Goddard, Amy Taylor and Kelly-Jade Whelan coming on for Emily Donovan, Molly Childerhouse and Rosie Russell respectively.

Hincks completed her hat-trick in the 87th minute.

Foster said: “It’s never easy to travel midweek. However, the players adapted extremely well, we defended really well todayand it’s good to get off the mark with a clean sheet, something everyone has been working extremely hard on.”

AFC Wimbledon are back in action again on Sunday with another away trip, this time to league newcomers AFC Sudbury.
