Dons failing to hold on to a lead comes as no shock to fed-up head coach Mark Robinson

Mark Robinson says that it was not a shock to see his AFC Wimbledon side fail to hold on to their lead once they conceded the first goal in the 2-2 draw with relegation rivals Doncaster Rovers.

The Dons took the lead after 23 minutes at Plough Lane when Jack Rudoni was left unmarked inside the area and planted Luke McCormick’s free-kick past Johnny Mitchell.

Wimbledon doubled their advantage in the 49th minute when McCormick headed a cross from Lee Brown past Mitchell.

But two goals in the space of three minutes from Doncaster captain Tommy Rowe saw Wimbledon’s lead disappear and their winless run extended to 15 games.

Left-back Lee Brown made a crucial clearance off the line from a Ben Jackson shot to secure the Dons a point in the 81st minute.

“It was a shock at 2-0, but at 2-1, no, it wasn’t,” said Robinson when asked about his side’s inability to hold on to the lead.

“That’s the worrying thing because once they got the goal, you just saw that lack of personality and lack of confidence.

“Yeah, we were dominant at 2-0 up, but was there still enough?

“Were we running around and telling each other how well we were doing? Driving it [forward] even more so that we got that third, were really smelling blood, and putting it to bed?

“Possibly not, but I need to have a look back.”

When asked if it was the most disappointed he felt after a game this season, Robinson said: “It’s happened too many times – I felt just as gutted away to Wycombe.

“I think it’s seven or eight times now where we have taken the lead in this run, and even if three or four of them ended up as wins, we’re not even having this conversation and talking about relegation.

“We and the players have got to come up with a solution to it.”
