Dons host Championship side Coventry in EFL Cup first round draw

AFC Wimbledon will host Championship side Coventry in the first round of the 2023-24 EFL Cup.

The Sky Blues lost at Wembley to Luton Town in the play-off final last season after finishing fifth in the table.

The Dons finished 21st in League Two, but have already signed three new players – Jake Reeves, Omar Bugiel and Josh Neufville – ahead of pre-season.

Both sides have won the FA Cup in their history, with Wimbledon beating Liverpool in the 1998 final and Coventry winning 3-2 against Spurs in 1987.

The clash is set to take place in the week commencing August 7.

Wimbledon were knocked out of the first round last season after a 2-0 home defeat to Gillingham.

Coventry were also knocked out at the same stage of the competition last year, suffering a 4-1 defeat to league rivals Bristol City.
