Dons manager Glyn Hodges expecting another “tough” League One campaign

BY NICK KITUNO

Glyn Hodges has insisted AFC Wimbledon are “more than comfortable” picking up points on the road during a tricky October run.

The Dons have picked up five points from their opening four League One games and sit i12th following a 2-1 defeat at home to Accrington Stanley on Saturday.

After an EFL Trophy clash with Leyton Orient, they face a seven-game stretch this month which includes four away trips and wraps up with a visit to Milton Keynes.

While Hodges remains optimistic, he reckons this will be another “tough” season.

He said: “I’m not saying it’s an easy start, but we’re capable of getting some points on the table.

“We’re more than comfortable going away, anywhere. We’ll have a go, I’m sure the boys will have a go and we can pick up points. It doesn’t matter if it’s home or away on the road.

“I mean, there’s a few northern games we’ve got to play, we’ve got to go up to Hull I think, we’ve got some journeys to do, but that’s part of being in League One and that’s part of being a footballer.”

He added: “It’s always a tough [season]. No disrespect to Accrington Stanley and AFC Wimbledon, anybody can beat anybody. You’ve got to be on your game, and you’ve got to be at it 100 per cent.

“It was only last week that we beat Fleetwood and they were in the play-offs last year, so they will be up there as well at some stage during the season.

“That’s the way it is, we’ve just got to make sure that we bring what we need to bring and the necessary quality to get the job done.”
