Dons midfielder backs former loanee to ‘thrive’ at Pompey

Ethan Chislett has backed former AFC Wimbledon loanee Ryley Towler to thrive at Portsmouth.

The 20-year-old defender cut his season-long loan spell with the Dons short to sign for Pompey on a permanent deal after they agreed a low six-figure fee with Towler’s then-parent club Bristol City.

Towler made 24 appearances under Johnnie Jackson and played every minute of Wimbledon’s 10-game unbeaten run in League Two.

“They were massive players,” Chislett told the South London Press of Towler and Maghoma.

“Ryley is now on a permanent to Portsmouth – he’s a very good player and a good lad. I’m sure that will work out.

“It’s a massive club as well. It’s a good move for him. He will thrive.”

Brentford recalled Maghoma after he suffered an injury in the build-up to the postponed Stevenage game, with Jackson confirming that the midfielder was set for a spell on the sidelines.

Former Spurs youngster Maghoma, 21, also made 24 appearances during his loan spell at Plough Lane.

Chislett added: “Paris is injured and went back to Brentford. I’m not too sure about his situation, but he was a massive player for us, especially in trying to build through the thirds.

“For him especially, this loan was massive for him. He has learnt the other side of the game, which I don’t think you get at the U23 set-up.

“It’s been beneficial to both of them, but it is a loss for us. We have got a good squad, and I believe we can achieve something this season.”
