Dons scorer Ollie Palmer can’t wait for the start of hostilities after warm-up defeat by Scunthorpe

Ollie Palmer says he “can’t wait” for the League One campaign to get underway after AFC Wimbledon’s 2-1 pre-season defeat against Scunthorpe.
Palmer scored the Dons’ only goal of the game from the penalty spot just three minutes in.
AFC Wimbledon get their season underway against Doncaster Rovers on August 7.
Speaking to AFC Wimbledon’s club website, Palmer said: “It was fantastic to have all the fans back. It wasn’t the result we wanted and probably deserved but we have to be more clinical.
“Before the fans returned, you were just playing on a pitch really with a nice surrounding, now having the fans in with the atmosphere, it’s what you want, it’s what you need.
“There was a lot of good play from us in the first twenty minutes, but we took our foot off the ball really, and let them back in it with a sloppy goal, which is disappointing. In the second-half we had a few chances that we should have taken and we should have won the game.
“We’re still looking at different formations, and that’s what pre-season is about. It’s about getting minutes in, of course you want to win, it’s always nice to win but it doesn’t count for anything. It all counts from next week.
“I feel good, it’s been a tough and gruelling pre-season. The gaffer wants us to be fit, and we’ve been working hard every single day.
“I’m just looking forward to the season, these games really count for nothing in terms of results, it’s just getting the minutes and the game time under your belt and next week is when the business starts.”
