Dons suffer injury blow as Brentford loanee ruled out for a number of weeks

AFC Wimbledon have suffered a serious injury blow with Brentford loanee Nathan Young-Coombes ruled out for a number of weeks.

The 19-year-old forward, who joined on a season-long loan from the Premier League side in the summer, has featured 10 times in all competitions under Johnnie Jackson.

The former Crystal Palace and Chelsea academy youngster has recorded five goal contributions in League Two – three goals and two assists – during his time so far at Plough Lane.

Young-Coombes was forced off after 44 minutes during the 2-0 defeat to Northampton Town, with manager Jackson confirming to our paper after the game that he had picked up a suspected knee injury.

Jackson confirmed that Young-Coombes will be out of action for a sustained period of time to Wimbledon’s official website ahead of their EFL Cup tie against Crawley Town.

When asked by the South London Press at the start of the season what he hoped to bring to the side, Young-Coombes said: “Lots of goals – that’s all I strive for.

“Hopefully, [we will] go up. That’s what we’re really focused on – how far we can take this season and how well we can do.

“These are a great bunch of boys. I haven’t been in a first-team dressing room quite like this, just with the banter and how good the players are – it’s a real family within our dressing room.

“We push ourselves to different limits and different levels every single day. Everyone has different qualities in different areas, and I am just latching on to the older, senior pros just to know and get better at certain details.”
