Dons will need to reschedule two matches as Wigan Athletic match suspended due to positive Covid-19 tests

BY RICHARD CAWLEY

AFC Wimbledon’s League One home game against Wigan Athletic this weekend has been suspended due to the number of positive cases of Covid-19 in the South London club’s ranks.

The Dons’ FA Cup tie against Barrow did not take place on Saturday.

And they now face having two fixtures rescheduled as the visit of the Latics – which would have been their second match at their new Plough Lane stadium – will also get a new date.

If Wimbledon do beat Barrow then they will be at home to League Two side Crawley Town.

An EFL statement said: “Next weekend’s Sky Bet League One fixture between AFC Wimbledon and Wigan Athletic has been suspended and will not take place on Saturday November 14 as scheduled.

“Due to the number of positive cases of Covid-19 within the AFC Wimbledon squad and the requirement for players and staff to subsequently self-isolate as per EFL and government guidance, the club has advised the EFL it is unable to safely fulfil next weekend’s fixture.

“The circumstances surrounding the postponement will now be the subject of investigation in accordance with EFL regulations.

“A revised date for the rearranged fixture will be confirmed in due course.”
