Dulwich Hamlet defeated by Dartford in National League

Dulwich Hamlet could not hold on to an early lead as they lost 2-1 to Dartford at Champion Hill last Saturday.

Midfielder Nana Owusu gave the South Londoners the lead after six minutes, turning Kreshnic Krasniqi’s cross past Joe Young.

But goalscorer Owusu gave away a penalty on the stroke of half-time when he brought down Marvin Herschel inside the area, Samir Carruthers beat Charlie Grainger from the spot.

Former Crystal Palace and AFC Wimbledon forward Charlie Sheringham gave Dartford all three points in the 82nd minute after he was left unmarked inside the area and headed Carruthers’ corner past Grainger.

Dulwich are five points off the National League relegation zone.

“The two lapses in concentration have cost us,” said Dulwich interim boss Paul Barnes.

“It’s disappointing because we deserved something.

“We talk about accountability. I say all the time that I’m happy to take responsibility. If we give the ball away trying to play football, that’s down to me, as I’m asking the boys to play.

“If the boys aren’t doing their jobs, there are times when individuals need to step up and own it.”
