Dulwich Hamlet sign Braintree Town striker – with Iffy Allen released

BY RICHARD CAWLEY

Dulwich Hamlet have signed Dan Thompson from Braintree Town – and let attacker Iffy Allen go.

And Hamlet boss Gavin Rose has admitted that there are set to be more changes as he is unhappy with their points return in their maiden campaign at National League South level.

Thompson, 24, started his career at Portsmouth. He had made nine appearances for Braintree this season without scoring a goal.

“We want to do three or four ins and three or four outs,” said Rose. “Dan joined Braintree this time last year and was really part of them getting promoted from the Conference South.

“He scored a few goals and there were some good performances. There was an opportunity to test himself in the Conference which he took. But the manager there left and a new one came in who didn’t really fancy him.

“He is a mobile targetman. He wants to play.

“Iffy has been with us since the start of the season. For me he hadn’t played to his potential – he had been in the Football League. Iffy has got good ability but for some reason he just didn’t settle – it happens. He has shown glimpses in games and if he had done that a little more often he would be a regular in the team. He just found it very difficult to get going.

“He is a good lad who worked really hard. I hope he finds somewhere he can really kick on.”

Dulwich return to Champion Hill on Boxing Day – ending their groundshare with Tooting & Mitcham.

But Rose says that had nothing to do with his desire to change the squad.

“We have had half the season and not really impressed,” he said. “If we want to get moving up the table then we really need to make some changes. We have given the group from the summer until now – it’s been a great opportunity to turn it around and we haven’t done that.

“We need to see if the changes galvanise us and we can get something out of the season. There is no guarantee but just to sit there and accept what we’re doing at the moment isn’t in our nature.”
