Dulwich Hamlet striker moves on – as boss Rose targets National League South survival

BY RICHARD CAWLEY

Gavin Tomlin has joined Ibrahim Kargbo and Daniel Pappoe in sealing moves away from Dulwich Hamlet.

Experienced striker Tomlin signed for Cray Valley on Wednesday, who are managed by former Hamlet first-team coach Kevin James.

Kargbo agreed to terminate his contract while former Chelsea youngster Pappoe has joined Carshalton on a permanent basis.

“Gavin has been with us for two-and-a-half years but the project they are trying at Cray appeals to him rather than offers to play still higher,” said Rose. “It means he links up again with Kevin.

Ibrahim has left the club now. He felt it would be really difficult to recover this season from his injuries, and if he did it would be quite late on.

“He gave us brilliant service for the same amount of time as Gavin and didn’t want to end his time here like that, so we cancelled his contract.”

It still leaves Anthony Cook and popular playmaker Ashley Carew on the transfer list.

“Anthony has done quite well and taken it [being listed] very well,” explained Rose. “He’s been a real model professional. There is no real rush for Anthony – if the right offer comes that is right for us and him, then fair enough. If not we are not overly concerned.

“Ashley Carew had a few options which probably haven’t suited either himself or the club. We’ll still monitor what we do with Anthony over the coming weeks.”

Rose had spoken about departures freeing up room for more new signings.

Hamlet are 17th in National League South – five points above the drop zone.“It’s hard for the club,” said Rose. “We had the board, our supporters’ trust and the 12th Man ‘appeal’ all contribute, just to make sure we can fulfil our budget. There will definitely be scope to bring one or two more in.

“The main thing for us is survival this season. Anything more than that will be a bonus. Then we can start pre-planning for next season.”

Dulwich will be without Jay Rich  Baghuelou and Ashley Carew (ankle) for Saturday’s home game against Chelmsford City.
