Dulwich Runners back in Surrey League Cross Country action

Dulwich Runners continued their Surrey League Cross Country campaign at Wimbledon Common on another warm sunny Saturday afternoon, writes Jonathan Whittaker.

The ladies race featured a shorter than normal 4.5km course. Fifteen members took part featuring some promising returns to cross country action from Christina Dimitrov and Belinda Bell. A collection of excellent runs from Polly Low-Macrae (42nd, 19:21), Kay Sheedy (57th, 19:39), Becca Schulleri (74th, 20:08), Katie Smith (105th, 20:54) and Laura Vincent (128th, 21:26) placed Dulwich’s A team in 12th out of 14 teams.

Dulwich’s men were unable to repeat the superb fourth place at the opening fixture with a number of expected scorers unavailable because of injury and international duty compounded by the strength of the Division 1 competition

Pre-race thumbs up from Adrian Russell (270), Fred Bungay (red glasses) and Shane O’Neill (264)

Despite this a 22-strong team gave their all to place the South London club in eighth place on the day in the 8.2km race, ahead of Croydon Harriers.

Ed Chuck was fifth and Andy Bond eighth in the British & Irish Cross Country Masters in Dublin with both finishing third in their respective age groups.
