EFL Cup second round draw details: West Ham-Charlton, Bournemouth-Palace and Millwall-Cheltenham

Charlton Athletic will travel to West Ham United in the second round of the EFL Cup – easily the most attractive tie for the South London clubs left in the competition.

Crystal Palace head to AFC Bournemouth, who lost their top-flight status in July, while Millwall have a home fixture against Cheltenham Town.

The Addicks progressed to the next round of the tournament with a 3-1 victory at Swindon Town yesterday.

It will the first time they have played West Ham since a 4-0 victory at The Valley in February 2007 – the scorers that day were Jerome Thomas (two), Darren Ambrose and Darren Bent in a Premier League contest.

The Addicks last victory in an away match against the east Londoners came in August 2002, Claus Jensen and Jon Fortune on target in a 2-0 success at Upton Park.

The winner will be at home to either Leeds United or Hull City in the third round.

Palace were knocked out at the second round stage by Colchester United last season – the U’s winning 5-4 on penalties after the match finished 0-0.

The winner will be away at Manchester City in round three.

Millwall have only played Cheltenham six times before – and have won five of those fixtures.

James Henry, Ashley Grimes and Marc Laird netted when they triumphed 3-1 at Whaddon Road in February 2009.

The winner of that tie will be at home against either Burnley or Sheffield United.
