Eltham boxer Courtney picks up second professional win

Eltham’s Maisey Rose Courtney moved to 2-0 after outpointing Spain’s Buchra El Quaissi (3-5-3) in Newcastle on Saturday night.

The 22-year-old knocked her opponent down in the first round and won 40-35 on the sole scorecard.

“I’m a little disappointed in my performance – I’m my biggest critic,” said Courtney. “I want to get a stoppage but it is hard in two minutes (the length of the rounds).

“I love boxing people from more of a high level, someone that is going to bring out the better me and beat me up a little bit. That is when I’m going to progress.

“I’d like a six-rounder next.”
