Everton set to complete move for former Crystal Palace winger Andros Townsend
Everton are reportedly closing in on the signing of former Crystal Palace winger Andros Townsend on a free transfer.
The 30-year-old’s Eagles contract at Selhurst Park expired on July 1.
The former Millwall loanee made 168 appearances and scored 13 goals for the South London club over a five year stay.
The Telegraph are reporting that the winger is set to sign for Everton on a one-year deal, with an option of a second year.
Townsend worked with current Everton boss Rafa Benitez at Newcastle between March and June 2016, but could not help the Magpies avoid relegation to the Championship.
In June, Townsend told Sky Sports News that Everton were making the right decision by appointing former Liverpool chief Benitez as their new boss.
“I played under Rafa at Newcastle, so I know how good of a manager he is,” said Townsend.
“He’s good on the training pitch. He is always trying to work hard and he’s a good man as well. Good man-manager.
“So, taking out the rivalry, taking out the Liverpool-Everton. For on pitch reasons, I think it’s a really good appointment.”
