Every word from Patrick Vieira’s press conference after Nottingham Forest’s 1-0 win over Crystal Palace

A second-half half strike from Mogan Gibbs-White gave Nottingham Forest all three points against Patrick Vieira’s Crystal Palace.

The Eagles missed a first-half penalty through Wilfried Zaha and failed to register a single shot on target during the 90 minutes.

Here is every word from Patrick Vieira’s written post-match press conference:

Thoughts on the game?

“My thoughts are that we had our moment in the first half, and we didn’t take our chance – we didn’t score that first goal.

“Slowly, our performance went down, and it became difficult for us to create chances.”

Disappointing that the performance went down after the penalty miss?

“Yeah, the performance went down, but overall, in the first half, we competed, and we played some good football.

“In the second half, we couldn’t create anything, and they made it really difficult with the number of people that they behind the ball.

“We were a little bit naive in the second half because, away from home, we should have managed the game much better. If we couldn’t win it, then we shouldn’t have lost that game.”

Made a few subs and tactical changes in the game. Feel as though any of them had the desired impact?

“No.”

Was that disappointing?

“Of course.”

Feel as though it was the most frustrating performance of the season?

Sometimes you make a decision, and sometimes it works, or it doesn’t work. Today, it didn’t work.

“The game, overall, reflects our season so far. We showed some good stuff, but there is a lack of consistency and a lack of being aggressive in both areas of the box.

“Again, in our good period of the game, we didn’t score that goal. If we scored that goal, the game would have been completely different.”

This was your highest amount of possession in an away game so far this season, but you didn’t really do anything with it. How frustrating was that for you?

“It is. But, on the other side, they defended really. We moved the ball, but we didn’t move it quickly enough.

“They defended well and were really compact, and we couldn’t find the players in between the lines.

“We were running out of ideas, and we didn’t create after we conceded the goal.”

This could have been the first time you would have won three consecutive games as Palace manager. How disappointing is it that it didn’t work out? What can you do to resolve that?

“It’s important for us not to make a conclusion about this game today. But we have to analyse the performance and look at what has been consistent this season so far.

“We have to improve. I have to find a better solution, or better rotations, or a different formation, but I don’t think that is the problem.

“We have to keep working. In this second half, we showed a lack of experience and discipline.

“But we have those young players who need to grow, and those games will make them better.”

Does it kind of focus your mind about what you want in January?

“I know the profile of players that we need, and I want. We will talk about it and try to improve the squad because those players need to be challenged.

Idea of how many players you do want?

“It’s not about a number, it’s about finding those players who can have an impact on helping the football club be more competitive.”

Any doubt about Zaha still being the penalty taker?

“There is zero doubt in my mind.”

Still confident he’s the penalty taker going forward?

“Yes.”
