Ex-Charlton striker nominated for 2023-24 PFA League One Player of the Year award

Alfie May has been named among the top six shortlist for the 2023-24 PFA League One Player of the Year due to his performances in a Charlton Athletic shirt.

May joined Charlton last summer from league rivals Cheltenham Town and won the League One Golden Boot during his campaign with the Addicks as he hit 23 goals across the season.

The striker was sold to big spenders Birmingham City this summer following their relegation to League One.

May, 31, has already stated in an interview that he would like to reclaim the Golden Boot in the 2024-25 season for his new side.

Former Peterborough duo Ephron Mason-Clark and Harrison Burrows – who have both moved on to the Championship – have been nominated.

Portsmouth duo Colby Bishop and Marlon Pack are up for the award alongside May.

And Derby County’s Nathaniel Mendez-Laing is also among the contenders for his role in helping the Rams win promotion to the Championship.

The winner will be announced at the PFA’s annual awards in Manchester on August 20.
