Exclusive: Charlton Athletic interested in Portsmouth goalkeeper Craig MacGillivray
Charlton Athletic are interested in Portsmouth goalkeeper Craig MacGillivray.
The South London Press understands that the 28-year-old, who is out of contract this summer, is on a list of potential targets.
Ben Amos had been number one for the Addicks last season but is also due to be a free agent at the end of June.
Charlton are keen on keeping the former Manchester United, Millwall and Bolton Wanderers stopper. But MacGillivray is also an attractive option.
MacGillivray won Portsmouth’s Player of the Season award but the South Coast outfit are looking to cut their expenditure after being hit hard financially by the Covid-19 pandemic.
Pompey have an option to extend his stay at Fratton Park but his salary will jump.
Portsmouth manager Danny Cowley recently told The News: “Craig’s had a really consistent season and thoroughly deserved the Player of the Season award. He’s a very good League One goalkeeper.
“We have to look at the whole picture and there’s many variables with Craig. There was an option with a real increase in salary. We have to make sure the money we do have available, we spend wisely across the whole squad.”
