Exclusive: Crystal Palace set to open contract talks with key midfielder
Crystal Palace are set to open contract talks with Cheick Doucoure over an improved deal at Selhurst Park, the South London Press understands.
The Mali international is currently recovering from a serious Achilles tendon injury he suffered during the 2-1 defeat at Luton in November and is targeting a return to action before the 2023-24 campaign comes to an end in May.
Doucoure penned a five-year deal with the Eagles when he joined from Lens in a deal worth an initial £21million at the start of the 2022-23 season.
The midfielder made 35 appearances in all competitions last campaign and won the Player of the Season award for his performances.
Liverpool were keen on a move for Doucoure in the summer, but Palace slapped a £70m price tag on the now 24-year-old to fend off their interest.
Eberechi Eze, Michael Olise, Jordan Ayew and Sam Johnstone have all penned new deals with Palace at points this season.
