Exclusive: Dons boss keen to secure defender on new contract

AFC Wimbledon head coach Mark Robinson wants to tie down Nesta Guinness-Walker to a new contract at Plough Lane.

The 22-year-old’s contract is set to expire at the end of the season. Championship trio Bristol City, Huddersfield and Middlesbrough are all reportedly keeping tabs on the situation.

The left-back joined the Dons in 2019 from non-league side Met Police and had spells at Tottenham Hotspur and Chelsea at youth level.

Robinson told the South London Press: “I see Nesta as very much a part of our plans. He’s a great lad – he wants to get better every day.

“He has got a bright future because he wants to improve, get better, and he knows the areas he needs to improve on. But he also has many great assets that can go on to be really important for what we want to do.

“With Nesta, he has got the attributes, but a lot of it is just that self-belief in certain areas. He’s proving that he is capable of excellent performances – it’s just getting that consistency with him.”

Guinness-Walker has made 35 appearances under Robinson and scored his first goal of the season in the 2-2 draw with Sheffield Wednesday.

Robinson added: “I want to keep hold of any lads who have room to improve and can take the club where it needs to be.”

Talks are still ongoing with midfielder Anthony Hartigan over a new deal with the South Londoners.
