Exclusive: Millwall interested in deal for Middlesbrough striker Josh Coburn
Millwall are interested in Middlesbrough striker Josh Coburn.
The South London Press understands that the Lions are one of a number of Championship clubs that are monitoring the big frontman’s situation on Teesside.
The 21-year-old has scored 11 goals in 53 appearances for Boro.
He was used as an 86th-minute substitute in the 1-0 win over Swansea on the opening day of the current campaign.
Injury disrupted the second half of the last campaign for Coburn, who banged in 10 goals in 35 League One appearances for Bristol Rovers in the 2022-23 season.
He had a minor procedure to try and correct a groin issue in December but then needed his game time managed after that.
Coburn scored five goals in 21 Championship matches last season but did not feature after early February.
Boro boss Michael Carrick, speaking about Coburn at the end of May, said: “For Josh, and for any player, next season is the big season. Sometimes you’re coming off the back of a season when everything has come easy and you’re flying. Other times things haven’t gone so well and that might not be totally in your control. But for Josh, he’s a young player, he’s still developing physically.
“He’s an incredible athlete in what he’s capable of doing, but he’s still kind of finding his body and getting rid of the niggles. He’s got plenty of time on his side, so there is no rush for that. He just needs to keep doing things right to give himself the best chance, which I can’t fault him for.”
Millwall head coach Neil Harris has talked more than once in pre-season about adding to his offensive options.
Coburn would add a physicality that the Lions squad lacks.
