Exclusive: Millwall keeper is on watchlist of AFC Wimbledon

By Richard Cawley

Wimbledon have an interest in taking Millwall keeper Tom King on loan – with current number one George Long heading back to parent club Sheffield United.

King spent the end of last season on loan at Stevenage in League Two.

“Tom is one on our list – but it is an extensive list,” said Dons manager Neal Ardley. “I’m not saying by any stretch of the imagination he is in our top three, but he is one we have watched, that’s for sure.”

Sheffield-born Long is due to be a free agent this summer. The Dons paid only a fraction of his salary.

“If Sheffield United are going to take up their option [of an extra year] and loan him out they are just going to be losing money,” said Ardley. “So what they will do is either keep him and sell him. Or they will let him go and George will command good money.

“If George was up for coming back here on our wage structure, not getting paid his loan money by Sheffield, then I’d be very keen. But I think George has got aspirations to push that little higher, and rightly so. It’s probably unlikely. We have started the process of finding a replacement a long while ago.”
