Experienced Dons player offers advice to youngsters linked with Fulham, Brentford, Sunderland and Huddersfield
AFC Wimbledon defender Lee Brown has offered his advice to the club’s youngsters who have been touted with a move away from Plough Lane this summer.
Brown joined the Dons last winter from Portsmouth. The experienced 31-year-old left-back, who has recorded more than 450 appearances and 80 goal contributions since 2008, became a cult hero at Bristol Rovers and Pompey.
Jack Rudoni, 21, has been the subject of bids from Championship sides – Sunderland and Huddersfield – during this summer transfer window after he scored 12 goals and picked up seven assists in all competitions last season.
England U20 trainee Ayoub Assal has been linked with a move to Premier League sides Fulham and Brentford.
And Bristol Rovers are reported to be keen on bringing Luke McCormick back to the Memorial Stadium. The 23-year-old attacking midfielder spent the 2020-21 season on loan with the Gas and has worked under Joey Barton.
“These are good young players who deserve to be linked to some clubs,” Brown told the South London Press. “I don’t know where the football club stands on it, but for me, you want all these players to stay because they are going to improve our squad.
“If the manager feels as though he can utilise that money and bring players in of a similar quality, then brilliant.
“Good young players are always going to get interest – credit to them.
“They have just got to keep their head down and work hard because some things don’t always materialise how you want them to as a player.
“For me, my advice to them would be to get on with your job and let the club do what they want to do and let someone tell you. The last thing as a player you want is to be getting involved with all the tit for tat, as it doesn’t end well.”
