Extra heartbreak for Eberechi Eze – as claims he would have made England’s 33-man squad for Euro 2020

Eberechi Eze was set to be part of England’s 33-man provisional squad for the Euros before he suffered an achilles injury, according to a report on a national newspaper’s website.

The former Millwall youngster signed for the Eagles last summer from Queens Park Rangers.

Eze has made eight appearances for England’s U21s and scored one goal.

The 22-year-old lit up the Premier League this season as he scored four goals and contributed six assists in 34 appearances for the South London club.

However days before the final game of the season against Liverpool, Eze suffered an achilles injury in training.

Now The Guardian are reporting that Eze discovered he was part of Gareth Southgate’s plans immediately after his setback. They say he returned to the dressing room and found a message from the Football Association telling him that he was in the senior squad for the first time.

After finding out the extent of his injury, Eze posted this message on Instagram: “The love I’ve received in the past couple of days from my team-mates, staff, fans and friends has been so powerful and I can’t tell you all how much it means to me.

“It’s not ideal but this is life and I won’t let this stop me. I’m grateful to God for all he has done for me and I know this is all part of his beautiful plan. His will, not mine.”
