Former AFC Wimbledon boss lands Chelsea role
Former AFC Wimbledon boss Mark Robinson has been appointed as the head coach of Chelsea’s development squad.
This will be Robinson’s first job in football since he parted company with the Dons in late March following a 21-game winless run in all competitions that saw the club slip into the bottom four of League One.
The South Londoners appointed Mark Bowen as his replacement, but they would still suffer relegation to League Two on the final day of the season.
Robinson spent 18 years with the Dons, where he helped build the club’s academy from the ground up. He was also in charge of the loans programme and was brought closer to the first team under Wally Downes and Glyn Hodges.
Robinson guided AFC Wimbledon’s first team to survival after being appointed Hodges’ replacement halfway through the 2020/21 season. Academy graduates Jack Rudoni and Ayoub Assal cemented their places in the Dons’ first team under Robinson.
Head of youth development with the Blues, Neil Bath, said: ‘We’re delighted to welcome Mark to the club.
“He has vast experience across youth development and the senior game, which will enable the academy to continue to develop players for the professional game.
‘We are confident that Mark will fit into our way of working and that he will add great value to the development of our players both individually and as a team. We look forward to Mark starting work in pre-season.’
