Former Brentford academy head of operations appointed new Charlton Athletic club secretary
Charlton Athletic have appointed Ron Dangerfield – once head of academy operations at Brentford – as their new club secretary.
He will start the new role in early May and replaces Chris Parkes, who has covered the position since his retirement in February.
Dangerfield spent six years with the Bees up until 2016. He joins the Addicks from Maldon & Tiptree where he is currently chairman.
Charlton owner Thomas Sandgaard, said: “I am pleased we have been able to appoint Ron as clubsecretary. He has the skill-set we were looking for and a wide-ranging experience in football.
“We have a busy summer ahead, as we get ready for next season, and Ron will play an important role in everything that is going on.”
Dangerfield said: “I’m really looking forward to getting started. Following the interview process I got the chance to meet Thomas Sandgaard at The Valley and everything has moved quickly. I am excited to get involved and see what I can contribute.
“There will be a lot to get on doing, taking over from Chris, who has done such a good job for many years but I am looking forward to it, I can’t wait.
“I know Anthony Hayes and Danny Senda from our days at Brentford, so it’s not like I am coming into an environment where you don’t know anybody.
“I will be sad to leave Maldon & Tiptree, there are a lot of good people down there, but one of the things I have learned, being involved in football, is that opportunities come and when they do you have to make the most of them. When I saw this I thought it was an opportunity I did not want to miss.”
Parkes will continue at Charlton as a club ambassador.
