Former Charlton boss Chris Powell – a lifelong Spurs fan – appointed interim assistant head coach at Tottenham

Former Charlton Athletic manager Chris Powell has been named interim assistant head coach at Tottenham.

The former England international, who also had two playing spells with the Addicks, will aid interim head coach Ryan Mason for the remainder of the season following the dismissal of Jose Mourinho yesterday.

Lambeth-born Powell is a Spurs fan and was appointed head of coaching of their academy in August 2020 and is also in Gareth Southgate’s England backroom team.

He had 161 matches in charge of Charlton and led them to the League One title in 2012. He also won promotion as a player with the SE7 outfit in 2000.

Tottenham chairman Daniel Levy told the club’s website: “We have great belief in this squad of talented players. We have a cup final and six Premier League games ahead of us and we shall now focus all our energies on achieving a strong finish to the season.”
