Former Charlton boss lands technical director role at League Two side

Former Charlton Athletic boss Nigel Adkins has been named as the new technical director of League Two side Tranmere Rovers.

The 58-year-old was in charge at The Valley from March 2021 to October 2021. Adkins managed Charlton on 26 occasions in all competitions, winning nine and losing 10.

He was sacked following a 3-2 loss against Accrington Stanley, which saw the South Londoners 22nd in the League One standings, which, at the time, was the lowest the football club had been in their history.

Ex-Southampton and Scunthorpe boss Adkins will act as a mentor and adviser to recently-appointed manager Ian Dawes.

“The opportunity to come back to Tranmere Rovers, my home-town club where it all started as an apprentice professional footballer, and to work with my former teammate Mark Palios was too big to turn down,” said Adkins.

“There is a vision to improve and develop and I’m excited to be part of the process.”
