Former Charlton keeper lands deal with Championship club
Former Charlton keeper Dillon Phillips has signed for Championship side Rotherham United.
Phillips came through Charlton’s academy – joining initially at the age of eight – and made 102 appearances for the club.
He left in October 2020 and signed for Cardiff City, where he featured 36 times before leaving as a free agent this summer.
The 28-year-old, who has also had a spell out in Belgium at KV Oostende, has penned a two-year deal at the New York Stadium.
He will battle it out with Viktor Johansson for the starting spot in Matt Taylor’s side.
For whatever reason, things haven’t quite worked out for Dillon over the last couple of seasons but we feel he is a Championship-quality keeper,” said Taylor.
“He’s had a little time abroad. He needs to find a home again, which is what we feel we can provide. I’m delighted we’ve got him because he had suitors elsewhere who were offering him guaranteed game-time. He’s here to compete with Viktor for the first-team jersey.”
