Former Charlton striker Alfie May targets claiming League One Golden Boot again with Birmingham City
Alfie May has set himself a double target for the upcoming League One campaign – to once again break the 20-goal barrier as well as landing the Golden Boot.
Charlton Athletic sold the 31-year-old to big-spending Birmingham City this summer.
May scored 27 goals in all competitions in his one season with the Addicks with 23 of those in the league, enough to finish top of the divisional scoring charts.
And now the former Cheltenham Town hotshot has told Birmingham Live he once again wants to finish in number one spot.
“I’ve got my own targets but I never give them out,” said May. “That’s my personal info but I know what I want, I got 23 last year, I won the Golden Boot and that’s what I want to finish with this year as well. I want to do it again.
“I saw a stat the other day, I think Billy Sharp was the only player to score 20-plus goals four seasons in a row and I want to keep going and score as many as I can for Birmingham.”
May is intent on being on penalty-taking duties for the Blues, who head to Charlton this month in the EFL Cup.
“If I’m on the pitch I will be grabbing the ball,” he said. “I think there’ll be a few people after it but I took penalties last year and didn’t miss any in the league. If the Gaffer has got someone he wants in charge of that then it’s down to him at the end of the day.”
