Former Charlton versatile defender makes League One transfer switch

League One rivals Leyton Orient have signed former Charlton Athletic defender Sean Clare for an undisclosed fee from Wigan Athletic.

The 27-year-old made 38 appearances last season for the Latics after joining on a free transfer from the Addicks.

Clare still had two years to run on his Wigan deal but Leyton Orient have shelled out a fee to secure his services on a three-year deal in east London.

He made 92 appearances for Charlton and featured in a number of positions after joining from Oxford United.

Orient boss Richie Wellens told the club website:  “First and foremost, Sean is an experienced League One player, and he also has experience in the Championship and Scottish Premier League.

“He can cover several areas for us, has a lot of pace and athleticism, is a good size and a very good footballer. I think he is a really good signing for us.”
