Former Charlton winger Lookman in line to start for Leicester against Millwall
Former Charlton Athletic winger Ademola Lookman looks set to start for Leicester City in Wednesday night’s EFL Cup tie at Millwall.
The 23-year-old South Londoner has made three appearances for the Foxes – all as a substitute – since joining on loan from RB Leipzig.
But Lookman impressed after being introduced at the start of the second half in Leicester’s 2-1 loss at Brighton on Sunday.
Asked about his performance, Leicester manager Brendan Rodgers said: “He was outstanding, it was exactly what we needed – playing inside, being able to come wide and combining with Ricci [Ricardo Pereira]. His cleverness and brightness in the game were just so good.
“I was pleased with that. It was just a case of Ade coming in and getting used to how we work and how we play. Day by day and game by game he is starting to make that impact.
“He’s certainly one we would consider starting during the week.”
Leicester won the FA Cup last season – beating Chelsea in the final. They also have Europa League commitments to contend with as well in the 2021-22 campaign.
“I want to do well in the cup competitions,” said Rodgers when asked about whether the EFL Cup is a priority. “We reached the semi-final in our first full season working together. And we’d like to do well this season. It’s an opportunity for me to have a look at some players and give them game time. I’ve got some players who have been training so well and working so hard. Make no mistake, it is a competition we’d like to do well in.”
