Former Chelsea boss set to be confirmed as new England manager

Former Chelsea boss Thomas Tuchel is set to be announced as the next England manager.

German coach Tuchel will become the third non-British permanent manager of the England men’s team after Sven-Goran Eriksson and Fabio Capello.

The 51-year-old is poised to be unveiled at a press conference on Wednesday, with his spell starting on January 1.

Interim boss Lee Carsley will remain in place for England’s final two Nations League matches against Greece and the Republic of Ireland in November.

Tuchel oversaw a period of success with Chelsea, winning the Champions League, Fifa Club World Cup and Uefa Super Cup.

He has also had spells with Bayern Munich, Paris St-Germain and Borussia Dortmund.

Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola was also sounded out for the job after Gareth Southgate left at the end of Euro 2024.

Tuchel will be tasked with leading England through qualification for the 2026 World Cup, which will take place in the United States, Canada, and Mexico.
