Former Crystal Palace defender Delaney makes Cork City homecoming
BY RICHARD CAWLEY
Damien Delaney has signed an 18-month deal with Cork City following his Crystal Palace exit.
The 36-year-old left the Eagles at the end of last season.
Cork were League of Ireland Premier Division champions in 2017.
Delaney said: “I’m really excited about what Cork City are doing and the direction they are going in.
“I always looked at the results from a distance – doing the double last year was a great achievement. I want to go to a club that is progressing and doing something, not just stagnating. I want to help to drive the club forward.
“That was part of the draw for me, having some Champions League football on my CV! Hopefully there will be some good nights.
“First and foremost I’m a footballer and I want to play. I’ve still got a lot left in me. Last year was the first one where I didn’t play regularly and it wasn’t something I enjoyed, that’s just the way of the world. I want to play football, I love training and I’m ready to go.”
