Former Crystal Palace duo released by League Two sides

Former Crystal Palace duo Stuart O’Keefe and Sean Scannell have both been released by their respective sides in League Two.

O’Keefe, 32, has been with Gillingham since 2019, making 131 appearances in all competitions and scoring on six occasions.

The midfielder joined Palace in 2010 under George Burley and featured 51 times for the Eagles before leaving in 2015 for Cardiff.

O’Keefe turned out in the Premier League for the South Londoners but also came on as a substitute in the play-off final win over Watford in 2013.

He replaced Kagisho Dikgacoi in the first half and played 103 minutes at Wembley as a Kevin Phillips penalty in extra time won promotion for the Eagles to the top flight.

The former Southend and Portsmouth midfielder has recorded more than 250 senior appearances during his career.

Sean Scannell will be a free agent this summer after being released by Grimsby Town.

The Croydon-born forward only made two appearances this season for the Mariners.

Scannell came through Palace’s academy and made 141 appearances for the Eagles, scoring 13 goals and recording the same number of assists.

The now 32-year-old reached the semi-finals of the EFL Cup with the South Londoners in 2012, with Dougie Freedman’s side losing to Cardiff on penalties.

Scannell has turned out for Huddersfield Town, Bradford and Blackpool since leaving Palace in 2012.
