Former Crystal Palace manager Trevor Francis dies aged 69

Former Crystal Palace manager Trevor Francis has died aged 69 after suffering a heart attack in Spain.

The former England and Nottingham Forest striker took charge of 78 games between 2001 to 2003, masterminding a famous FA Cup success at Anfield and the five-goal victory over Brighton & Hove Albion.

He became the first £1million footballer when he moved from Birmingham City to Brian Clough’s Nottingham Forest in 1979.

Francis, who won 52 England caps, also had spells at Manchester City, Sampdoria and Sheffield Wednesday during his career.

He also had managerial stints at Birmingham and QPR.
