Former Crystal Palace striker lands League One deal – with Charlton set to be first home outing

Former Crystal Palace striker Dwight Gayle has joined Derby County on a free transfer until the end of the 2023-24 season.

The 34-year-old was a free agent after leaving Stoke City in the January transfer window.

Derby are second in League One and head to Brasnley this weekend before hosting Nathan Jones’ Charlton at Pride Park next Tuesday.

Gayle joined Palace from Peterborough at the start of the 2013-14 season and spent three seasons with the South Londoners, scoring 25 goals and picking up three assists in all competitions.

The striker left to join Newcastle United, where he fired the club back into the Premier League after scoring 23 goals in 32 Championship appearances.

Gayle has also had a spell at West Brom during his career.
