Former Ipswich Town striker still training with Charlton Athletic

Leon Best is still training with Charlton Athletic – but needs to be fully fit before a decision is made over offering him a deal.

The experienced striker has not played since the start of January and was released by Ipswich at the end of last season.

Addicks boss Karl Robinson says the club cannot afford to sign Best and then wait for him to get up to speed. The South Londoners snapped up Ben Reeves just before the start of the campaign and a couple of niggling setbacks ensured he only made his first League One start against Oxford in midweek.

“Leon’s still training with us – he is in today,” said Robinson. “We’re just going to keep it going. We can’t act on anything before we think he is fit enough to compete.

“What we don’t want to do is bring him in, like Reevesy, and he’s injured.

“We’ll have more of a clear view once we get a free week. It’s been hard this week. As much as he has trained hard we have only trained for one day. Today is a recovery day.”
