Former Millwall boss looks set for Championship managerial return

Birmingham City look set to appoint former Millwall boss Gary Rowett on an interim-basis until the end of the season, according to reports.

Permanent boss Tony Mowbray – who took over after Wayne Rooney’s sacking – is recovering from an illness.

Mowbray’s assistant Mark Venus has been in charge of the Blues but picked up just one point from his six matches in charge.

Birmingham are 21st in the Championship table and out of the bottom three on goal difference.

Rowett has been out of work since leaving Millwall in October 2023 after four years in charge of the South London-based club.

The 50-year-old took charge of Birmingham 106 times during his first stint between October 2014 to December 2016.

Birmingham are four points behind the Lions in the congested battle at the bottom of the Championship.
