Former Millwall boss wins Championship Manager of the Month award

Oxford United manager Gary Rowett has won the SkyBet Championship Manager of the Month award for January.

The ex-Charlton defender took 12 points from six unbeaten games, including wins over Luton, Blackburn and Millwall.

Oxford also secured draws against Preston, Plymouth, and Stoke.

Rowett, who managed 196 games as Millwall boss, arrived at Oxford towards the end of December, and has overseen a change of fortunes.

The club, who were 23rd in the table amidst a relegation scrap when Rowett was appointed, have climbed to 16th, and are now 10 points above the relegation zone.

Rowett beat out competition from Queen’s Park Rangers’ Marti Cifuentes, Cardiff City’s Omer Riza and Sunderland’s Regis Le Bris to secure the award.

The Sky Bet Manager of the Month judging panel comprises former Barnsley manager Danny Wilson, Sky Sports’ EFL expert Don Goodman, and Sky Bet EFL trader Ivor Davies.
