Former Tooting & Mitcham boss Frank Wilson keen on new managerial challenge
Former Tooting & Mitcham boss Frank Wilson is ready to delve back into management.
He left the Terrors at the end of last season.
Tooting won promotion to the Isthmian Premier League under his stewardship – pipping Dorking Wanderers to the title – and also claimed the London Senior Cup.
Wilson said: “I was offered a few jobs in the summer but logistical challenges with those roles meant I could not pursue them and my wife and I had our first baby on July 5, so the timing was right to take a step back over the summer.
“Since the start of the season, I was asked to be a co-presenter on the popular ‘Back of the Net’ Non League Football show, alongside fellow ex-managers Jim Cooper [Met Police] and Jody Brown [Heybridge Swifts]. I have been part of their weekly show – which has enabled me to review and keep in close contact with the Bostik and National Leagues – as they are the main focus for the BOTN show.
“It’s been a different perspective for me as an ex manager, now analysing & reviewing the leagues and being a part of a really brilliant and insightful topical non-league football show.
“I have definitely used this time to explore different things. I have gone and reviewed lots of games, analysed performances as part of the show, met and spoken to lots of brilliant people in non-league football and shared experiences.
“I do really enjoy my role as a co-presenter of the show but my aim is very much to get back into management asap. I’m hoping for the right opportunity to come up soon.
“I am only 32 – my ambition is for my involvement and time spent learning in non-league football, to lead to a role in full-time professional football. I
“I set out to create a professional working environment at Tooting & Mitcham. The other coaches I worked with and the players we had, were representative of that.
“That is what made it such a worthwhile experience and what brought us success in my time there. The challenge to find a new club of which to instate something similar is what I am looking for. “The template can already be there for the club I put myself forward for, or there can be an opportunity to help create that. Each club will have it’s own identity and it’s about working together with the right people.
“I have some excellent people behind me, one or two that I would be very interested in working alongside. In particular, Paul Dale – my previous assistant manager from Tooting & Mitcham who recently left his post as first-team coach at Kingstonian and someone who I have achieved great things with from our time together.”
